Blue Peter Iced Tea

Blue Peter Iced Tea

Now that I have your attention with this wild, “makes~no~sense” name of a cocktail…today the thankful table is debuting The Blue Peter Iced Tea. It is actually (according to us) the caribbean version of the ever popular “knock you completely off your socks before you even know it” Long Island Iced Tea (I’ve been teasing my friends on Facebook for several weeks now). It’s pretty, delicious and the name is intriguing. So, without further ado, I shall explain why we chose this name for this cocktail.

Aside from riding our Harley, our biggest love is being on the water. Period. We took a cruise for our tenth anniversary in January and, being the good patrons that we are, decided to try some of the fun bevies on board, regardless of calories/sugar/and all the fun stuff that make a cocktail delicious. We ordered up two Frog Island Iced Teas, as they were the daily “special”. It was love at first sip. The tropical flavors of coconut, rum, pineapple and lemonade just make a person want to sit back, soak up the sun and sip on one (or two). So, we deciphered what was in this glorious magnificent beautiful cocktail, and went to work on our version once we hit dry land. January really isn’t the ideal time to blog about a caribbean cocktail…as lovely as it sounds, it’s just plain mean. Especially if you live in the Mitten State, like we do. Winter is far far too long and miserable. So, we patiently waited until summer. Then got busy doing summer things, and, here we are…August. So I thought I had better get this little darling on the blog before fall, because then it’s all about pumpkins and spice and donuts and coffee and apple picking. Ok, now for the reasoning behind the name…

As I stated, we LOVE the water. This cocktail is actually more teal than blue, but we wanted a nautical name attached to it (aside from the very common ones). So, perusing on the internet, throwing out names here and there to Joe…this one was just funny, in it’s own odd way (I only said it to be a smarty pants, that’ll teach me). Blue Peter is the nickname given to the nautical signal flag that represents the letter “p” (each letter of the alphabet has a specific meaning) and is flown to signal that all persons should board the vessel, as it is about to set sail (blue flag with a white square in the center). So, this being “blue enough”, the name just kinda fit. I wasn’t sure at first if it would be too silly, but the more we said it, it just stuck…so it is what it is! I honestly think you should just whip up one of these up, relax by the pool with a good book, or with a friend or your beloved (or whatever/whoever else makes your skirt fly up), sun shining down upon your face and enjoy the day. Have a fabulous weekend friends!

Sláinte!
